Hazard and Somerset is where I started my Gregory Ashe journey nearly two years ago, so despite how many books they have, reading them is always kind of like coming home. I was looking forward to this book for that reason on top of, of course, seeing how he wrapped this series up. And I loved every moment of it.

This felt so very much like a H&S book but still with the inclusion of our favorite four other guys. The story could be very heavy at times so having the others around, cracking jokes or being there when they were needed, was excellent. I love the bond between Emery and Tean. Seeing the relationship between all eight of these guys unfold and evolve over the course of these four books has been so much fun to watch.

I loved the scenes with Emery and John-Henry playing off each other during investigating because it was so much like the first arc of Hazard and Somerset. The way they worked together was one of my favorite parts of that first arc so it is always great to see them fall back into that.

The way they have matured over the years is so apparent in how they interact, particularly, with each other. John-Henry's maturity throughout this entire series has blown me away--the way he handled himself and in particular how he handled trying to walk the difficult line between friend and chief of police with some of his rather unruly compadres, in particular. But Emery and John-Henry's growth with each other is such a thing of beauty. Don't get me wrong, I love me a good down and dirty, immature H&S fight. But seeing how far they've come is beautiful.

GA not only wrapped up the Iron on Iron storyline but somehow managed to wrap up some loose threads from Emery and John-Henry's story that started all the way back in Pretty Pretty Boys. It was very reminiscent of how he wrapped up a lot of Theo and Auggie's open storylines in The Girl in the Wind, but even more impressive given Pretty Pretty Boys came out over six years ago! It made the book even more satisfying for me.

The ending was so good. I don't know how to talk about it without spoiling anything but ugh, I loved it.

10/10 would recommend. Comes out February 5th! Don't miss it. :) Also, don't miss the short story collection, Good Vibes Only, that comes out February 12th. All the pain and suffering of the series is made worth it by the bits of fluff we get fed in the short story collections lol.

Oh, and as a random aside, you might have noticed we get little teases about something going on in Nico's life throughout this story. You can actually read about that in Nico's story that is currently being serialized on Advanced Ashochism, Gregory Ashe's patron platform.
